Jandroković: Relations with Canada are friendly, there is agreement on Ukraine

Croatian Parliament Speaker, Gordan Jandroković, and the Speaker of the Senate of Canada, George Furey, said after a meeting in Zagreb, that Croatian-Canadian relations are friendly and allied, while the two countries also agree on support for Ukraine.

Gordan Jandroković told reporters that he and George Furey, who is on an official visit to Croatia, mostly talked about the Russian aggression against Ukraine.

“Croatia and Canada have almost identical views. We condemn and have condemned the Russian aggression against Ukraine and we strongly support the Ukrainian people in their fight for freedom,” Jandroković said after the conversation.

“We are already strongly helping Ukraine and we will continue this support further. We expressed our satisfaction with the fact that the entire Western world stood up to defend values such as freedom, democracy, the rule of law, the protection of fundamental human rights, and this will be the policy we will continue with in the future,” he added.

He pointed out that relations between Croatia and Canada are "extremely good and friendly".

The Croatian Parliament Speaker specifically referred to the Croatian diaspora in Canada as a "bridge that connects two countries".

“They are very active when it comes to the development of bilateral relations, but they are also important in the economic segment. We have successful investors among Croats from Canada,” Jandroković pointed out.

“Economic cooperation between Canada and Croatia is expressed, among other things, in the tourism sector (over 100 thousand Canadian tourists visited Croatia in 2022), in the field of energy and shipbuilding,” said the Croatian Parliament Speaker.

“We believe that relations that are politically great will gain an even stronger dimension when it comes to economic, tourism and any other cooperation,” he added.

Furey pointed out that Croatian-Canadian relations are "very positive and very friendly".

“One of the key reasons for the visit is not only to confirm the alliance with Croatia, but also to confirm the friendship between the countries,” he added.

Furey thanked Croatia for its support to Ukraine, noting that Canada "fully supports Ukraine".

“We hope that the support will only grow,” he added.
