Protests against vaccine mandates, COVID-certificates, and restrictive measures, continue throughout the world. The "Freedom Convoy" of truckers in Canada has been protesting in Ottawa for more than two weeks now. Yesterday police were deployed to the Ambassador Bridge connecting Canada and the United States, to remove a trucker blockade of the bridge.

Inspired by the Canadian "Freedom Convoy", similar convoys have now started throughout the world, from France, the Netherlands and Switzerland, to Australia and New Zealand. In Europe, the convoy plans on making its way to Brussels, the seat of European Commission.

In a seemingly undemocratic move, the prefecture of the Lower Rhine region in France, which is home to the European Parliament building in Strasbourg, has announced that all unreported protests against COVID-19 policies have been banned, and that blocking or obstructing traffic is punishable by two years in prison, a 4 500 Euros fine, revocation of driver's license and seizure of vehicle. Licenses can be suspended for up to three years, and protest organizers face six months in prison and fines of up to 7 500 Euros.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International has accused pharmaceutical companies of sparking a human rights disaster in 2021 through its "tragic failure" in responding to COVID-19. According to Amnesty, pharmaceutical companies selling coronavirus vaccines have monopolized technology, lobbied against the sharing of intellectual property, charged exorbitant prices for vaccines and prioritized supplying rich countries.
