US military officials presented two UH-60M Black Hawk helicopters to Croatian leaders at a ceremony at Pleso Airport on Wednesday.

The helicopters are part of an acquisition deal with the United States under which Croatia is buying two Black Hawks and getting two more as a donation. The helicopters are valued at 360 million kuna.

After meeting with Croatian military leaders earlier in the day, Major General David Tabor of US Special Operations Command in Europe spoke at the ceremony. He said the donation would enhance Croatia’s defense capabilities and security as a member of NATO.

“Without your commitment and dedication to our common defense we would not be here today. The transfer of these two Black Hawk helicopters represents the strong bond between the United States and Croatia,” Maj. Gen. Tabor said.

After a test flight in one of the helicopters, Defense Minister Mario Banožić said the aircraft were top-grade military equipment. The other two Black Hawks are expected to be delivered by the end of the year, he said.

President Zoran Milanović also attended the ceremony.

“This is a good investment and a commitment for future cooperation. We cannot buy something other than Western equipment and our cooperation with the Americans has proven successful,” Milanović said.

The Black Hawks are multi-purpose aircraft and can be used to transport passengers and equipment. Their maximum speed is 360 kpmh.
