On Monday Croatia and the United States signed an agreement on Croatia's entry into the Global Entry program, which will allow some Croatian citizens privileged entry into the United States.

Croatia became only the fourth European country to do so. Interior Minister Davor Božinović pointed out that this was "an accelerated procedure that America gives only to those countries and those systems with which it has established that level of trust."

It is a program of the American Department of Homeland Security that enables accelerated crossing of American borders for previously approved passengers. Such passengers will not "have to wait in line" to pass control, said Gabriel Escobar, deputy assistant secretary of state and US special envoy for the Western Balkans.

He added that the signing of these agreements with Croatia "signals the level of trust we have in our Croatian partners and the level of strategic relationship we are developing with Croatia and the level of friendship."

Washington has signed such an agreement with only three other European countries, Germany, Great Britain and Switzerland, while since October last year, Croatian citizens can travel to America without a visa for tourist and business trips lasting 90 days.

“This is a great pledge for our future cooperation, we have many challenges ahead of us. The war in Ukraine, all that modern threats entail, but that is why we have services that cooperate on a daily basis, services exchange information on a daily basis and fight together to preserve what is most valuable to us in a challenging world, and that is our way of life ", said Božinović, adding that this is the 12th agreement signed with the United States in the last five years.

In addition to the Global Entry agreement, Božinović and Escobar signed an agreement on the Partnership for Education (PFE), which will strengthen the capabilities of the police in Croatia and the region in the fight against transnational crime and terrorism.

“We look forward to even greater partnership in detecting, obstructing and deterring transnational organized crime and terrorist actors in the Western Balkans,” said the US Special Envoy for the region.
