The Croatian Employers Association organized its Day of Entrepreneurs in Zagreb on Monday. The focus of the most important annual gathering of Croatian business leaders was on the state of the Croatian economy.
Addressing those gathered in Zagreb the President of the Croatian Employers Association, Mihael Furjan, addressed the association’s goals in the period ahead: "What is the purpose of our existence? We want more competitive entrepreneurs in Croatia. We are interested in three priorities. One is the easing of the burden on the economy. The second is employment and how to hang on to our talented people, and third, given this massive opportunity that Croatia has in terms of the National Recovery and Resilience Program, we want to see the better use of EU funds."
The meeting was also attended by trade union representatives and President Zoran Milanović, who warned that the Croatian economy has moved away from production and put too much emphasis on services: "We are a service economy that has abandoned or moved away from classic production, of which there is less and less in Croatia. However, in that race for the highest possible profit, which is the lifeblood of entrepreneurship, we are still at the back of the pack. The West has become spoiled and simply does not want to do manual labour or anything that is beyond the comfort zone, and today that's just about everything that doesn't provide instant gratification. So those jobs have been delegated, or relegated to the others, those who are prepared to do those jobs."
