“At a telephone session, we passed two decrees: the Decree amending the Decree on the amount of excise duty on energy products and electricity, and the Decree on determining the highest retail prices of petroleum products. The first is under the authority of the Minister of Finance, and the second under the authority of the Minister of Economy,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković after a telephone session of the Government.

“It was announced on Friday that we would hold a session,” he explained, “in order to take additional measures in time that will reduce and mitigate the growth of fuel prices and thus prevent an additional blow to the standard of living of citizens.”

“We have decided to further reduce excise duties on gasoline and diesel fuel. The total reduction in excise duties is now 80 cents per liter of unleaded motor gasoline. So far, we have intervened and reduced the excise tax by 40 lipa, now we are reducing it by an additional 40 lipa per liter of motor gasoline. For diesel fuel, we have already reduced it by 20 lipa and now we are reducing it by an additional 20 lipa,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković.

The Prime Minister stated that the state has so far reduced excise duties from 86 kuna to 3.06 kuna per liter of petrol, and from 3.06 kuna to 2.66 kuna per liter of diesel fuel.

“In addition to the regulation on excise duties,” the Prime Minister added,” the new regulation introduces a 14-day accounting period, so the prices of petroleum products will change every 14 days.”

“Following this period of energy crisis, we estimated that it would now be more favorable for citizens to change the price every two weeks,” he said.

“In this manner of calculation, the maximum possible savings will be brought to the citizens,” added the prime minister.

The regulation will be in force for the next 30 days, after which they will reassess the situation so that the Government can see what more can be done.

“We are going to limit the highest margin of energy subjects, which is reduced by 10 lipa,” he added.

According to Plenković, the savings achieved due to previous interventions amount to 2.28 kuna per liter for petrol, 2.72 kuna per liter for diesel and 1.42 kuna per liter for blue diesel.

“With the entry into force of the Decree, the maximum retail price of petroleum products will amount to 13.08 kuna per liter for diesel, 13.50 kuna for petrol and 9.45 kuna for blue diesel. Looking at a 50-liter fuel tank, the savings for petrol are around 140 kuna, for diesel 136 kuna and for blue diesel 71 kuna,” he explained.

“All prices,” emphasized Plenković, “will be valid at petrol stations from Wednesday, because they must legally have one day off from the entry into force of the new regulation.”

In the past three months, the government has waived 150 million kuna in excise duties, and today it did so again.
