Visitors coming to Croatia this summer will need to show a negative Covid-19 test when returning to their home countries which is why local tourism organizations are planning to set up testing points for visitors and developing logistics to ensure testing is quick and easy.
Some hotel companies are working on setting up their own testing facilities through contracts with local labs offering the service.
“We really need to set up these testing locations as soon as possible so visitors know when they arrive at their destination that we offer testing,” said Katarina Šprljan Martina, a hotel sales representative.
Large hotel companies do not want to leave anything up to chance. They have set up deals with labs to take samples from visitors in house.
“Guests can contact our reservations department or reception desk before they arrive or during their stay to find out all of the information they need and book a testing appointment. Testing is conduced daily and the results are available the same day,” said Katarina Tomassini Marić, the sales team leader for a major hotel company.
During a pandemic, a service like testing is considered an added value. County tourism boards have been working on a testing protocol for visitors. Ivana Lušić, the assistant to the director of the Šibenik-Knin County Tourism Board said her county was considering whether to set up additional testing teams at certain locations or to have mobile units moving from location to location, according to need.
However, these businesses will have to hire their own health care technicians to take testing samples because local public health bureaus are stretched too thin with their current workload of regular testing. It may not be as convenient as getting tested at your hotel, but visitors are welcomed to come to the local health bureau, said Diana Dulibić, the head of the Šibenik-Knin County Public Health Bureau.
The first test of mobile teams will be for yacht tourists. Marinas are expecting a large number of visitors starting in May. Industry representatives say they are counting on the Tourism Ministry to help them set up testing locations.
