The last remaining kilometers of the Pan-European Corridor VC highway through Croatia are nearly finished.

This section connects Budapest to Croatia’s port of Ploče on the Adriatic, and is one of several major transport projects transforming the country’s east. Along with the highway, new air, rail, and tram projects have been completed or are underway.

Work is also progressing on the Karašica overpass on the Baranja Motorway. The final five kilometers of Corridor VC in Croatia are expected to be completed in August.

“There are eight demanding structures, including two overpasses, so there was a lot of work. The project is worth 46 million euros,” said Boris Huzjan, President of the Croatian Motorways Management Board.

A technical inspection is scheduled for August, with the section set to open to traffic in September or October.

“With this, Croatia will have built 88 kilometers of the key Corridor VC. Its full potential will be realized once the motorway through Bosnia and Herzegovina is complete, which is crucial for the port of Ploče — but we’ll have to wait some time for that,” said Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure Oleg Butković.

The minister estimates it will take at least another 10 years to finish the Bosnian section. Once Croatia’s final stretch is open, the trip between Osijek and Budapest will take less than two hours, which is expected to boost the economy.
