After a two-year break due to the pandemic on Good Friday, the traditional Way of the Cross for people with disabilities was held again on a forest path along the Zagreb stream Bliznec on the slopes of the Medvednica Mountain. The Way of the Cross for about 200 people was led by Zagreb Auxiliary, Msgr. Mijo Gorski.

“When people with disabilities see that someone is thinking about them and that they are adapting certain things here, such as the path adapted elsewhere where there are public spaces, or wheelchair access, then they see someone thinking about us,” said Rev. Dragutin Goričanec, pastor of the parish of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross Završje.

The Way of the Cross was also held on the Kamenjak hill near Stankovci. For 27 years, prayers are said for more than 80 people who were killed as victims of partisan-communist crimes after World War II and thrown into a 57-meter-deep pit. More than 200 locals from the surrounding villages, as well as members of the Croatian army and police, took part in the event.

“Today we are still asking the question, we don't know why. One of the historical facts is that we found a document in which a newspaper itself, that is, journalists from the then 19th Division of the Expression of Brotherhood, say that they killed those people. And we still don't know why,” said Radoslav Bobanović.
