During the past weekend, from July 29th to 31st, a total of 959 998 vehicles were recorded on all highways managed by the Croatian Motorways Company (HAC). Pre-tax turnover at highway tolls exceeded 53 million Kuna.

According to data released by HAC, compared to the same weekend last year, vehicle traffic increased by 2.2%, while the amount of tolls collected increased by one percent. When compared to the same weekend from the record-breaking year in 2019, vehicle traffic increased by 5.7%, while the amount of tolls collected increased by 1.5%.

Cumulatively, from the beginning of the year until the end of July, more than 35.5 million vehicles have been registered on Croatian highways. Compared to the same seven month period last year, vehicle traffic increased by 20%, while toll revenues increased by 23%.

Commenting on the strong data Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said: "The biggest number of vehicles in a single tourist weekend, happened just now. Which means that tourists are driving and that Croatia is registering revenues. Obviously government is aware that this is the tourist season, an important time for everyone in the tourism sector with regard to profits, but it is also important for the government to benefit from this, so that we can raise our fiscal capacities for interventions when they are needed, and that will be in the fall."
