The 30th anniversary of the 126th Brigade of the Croatian Army was marked in Sinj. Wreaths and lighted candles were laid at the Monument to the Croatian Veterans who gave their lives in the Homeland War. President Zoran Milanović also took part in marking the anniversary.
“The truth can hurt, and the truth is better than lies, always and when it is painful. Our truth is not painful. Your truth is something you can be proud of, and proud of it in a floating, beautiful, human way without bitterness, without arrogance - ordinary human, Dalmatian pride,” said the President and Supreme Commander of the Croatian Armed Forces Zoran Milanović in his address at the ceremony in Sinj.
President Milanović said that such gatherings are important for new generations, who did not experience the Homeland War. He added that the truth should be constantly emphasized - that war was being avoided.
He pointed out that during the Homeland War, Croatia was defended by a small number of people.
“These seven thousand who passed through your brigade throughout the war are people who deserve the deepest respect, especially those who were first when it was hardest and when it was most dangerous. Croatia was carried by several thousand people. It is a special, elite status and you have that status and guard it jealously. It is yours and no one's, yours because the state could not organize then, because it had nothing to organize with. You organized yourselves largely on your own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart for that,” said President Milanović.
