Medved: We will never give up the search for the missing

On the eve of tomorrow's Remembrance Day for Persons Missing in the Homeland War and the International Day of the Missing, a thematic session of the Croatian Parliament's War Veterans Committee titled "Missing in the Homeland War - 35 Years Later" is being held in Vukovar.

Ahead of the War Veterans Committee session in Vukovar, the Minister of Croatian Veterans, Tomo Medved, visited Petrovačka Dola on Saturday. This is a site where 36 people killed in the Homeland War have been exhumed and identified in recent years during the search for the missing.

"On this occasion, I wanted to report on the efforts we have made over the past four years in searching for missing persons. During the works, we removed an asbestos hill, and we have also made the decision to remove a large hill of waste because we firmly believe we will find more mortal remains of missing persons," Medved said at Petrovačka Dola, a municipal waste landfill.

He emphasized that one of the most horrific crimes of the Homeland War took place there.

"Even today, from Petrovačka Dola, we reiterate that this is one of the most horrific crime scenes. After being killed at other locations—in the Vukovar hospital, at Velepromet, and on the streets of Vukovar—these people were brought to Petrovačka Dola and thrown here to cover up the crime. Following that, municipal, construction waste, and animal bones were brought here for years. It is clear confirmation that we will never give up the search for the missing," Medved said.

Medved on Mladić: Justice is slow, but it will always catch up with criminals

Minister Tomo Medved commented on war criminal Ratka Mladić, who passed away on Thursday.

"Unfortunately, he did not answer for the crimes he committed in the Republic of Croatia. However, justice caught up with him for the crimes he committed in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The message to everyone is clear: justice will always catch up with those who commit crimes. It is slow, but it will catch up with them," Medved stated.

Prior to this, Minister Medved and Marko Perković Thompson also visited the Homeland War Memorial Centre in Vukovar. When asked if he would attend Marko Perković Thompson's concert tonight, Medved said he would decide after the Committee session.
