There were 704 new cases of coronavirus infection in Croatia, and another 10 people have died. There are 518 patients in hospital, 57 of whom are on respirators. With the rise in the number of new infections, epidemiologists are discussing a third dose of vaccination, first with the Pfizer vaccine, which could begin in early October. At the same time, the flu season started early, against which vaccination begins in early November.
“The third dose will be given to people who received the first two doses, eight months after the second dose. We anticipate that it will start at the beginning of October and those were vaccinated eight or more months ago will be vaccinated, primarily the elderly, immunocompromised people and people with some serious chronic diseases,” said Dijana Mayer from the Croatian Institute of Public Health when speaking for Croatian Television.
Mayer says that the third dose of vaccination currently applies to those who have received the Pfizer vaccine and vaccination will first start with this vaccine, because with it vaccination began in Croatia. She believes that other vaccines will soon be available as the eight-month period ends after the second dose.
Mayer also says the flu vaccination will start, just like last year, in mid-October to early November according to an already well-known schedule. For now, people will be vaccinated at county public health institutes, in offices of family doctors, and for children in pediatricians’ offices.
