Extremely strong northeasterly winds are causing traffic problems on the coast.

DHMZ, the national weather service, issued a severe weather warning on Sunday for the entire coast because of extreme northeasterly winds, reaching up to 200 km/hour.


Some ferry and catamaran lines were suspended and several sections of the A1 motorway were closed.


The service has issued a red alarm, indicating extreme danger, for all ships sailing in waters below Mount Velebit and in Dalmatia. There is also an orange alarm, indicting danger, for the north Adriatic.

Calmer winds are forecast for Monday.
