Doctors struggle to save young man hit by drunk driver in Split

Doctors in Split are trying to save a 17-year-old boy who was hit by a drunk driver as he was crossing the street on a cross-walk early Thursday morning. 

The accident occurred just after 3 a.m. at the intersection of Vukovarska and Velebitska streets.

"His condition is exceptionally critical. All means of intensive care are being utilized in his care," said Dr. Joško Markić, the head of Pediatrics at Split Clinical Hospital about the victim.

Police identified the driver of the vehicle as a 27-year-old man, who was under the influence of alcohol and driving over the speed limit at the time of the accident. Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them.
