Croatia reported 5,164 new infections on Friday, a decrease of 32% from last week.
The death toll from the coronavirus remains high. Public health authorities reported that another 50 people have died. Hospitals are treating 1,837 patients, 128 of whom are on ventilators.
Health Minister Vili Beroš said that the number of patients in hospitals is falling, as are new hospitalizations, but the number of deaths is still high. He is also displeased with vaccinations. Croatia's vaccination rate remains low at 57%.
"Our rate of vaccination, especially among our elderly population is still not high enough. That is why we are initiating a new vaccination campaign that will put special emphasis on vaccinating the elderly and the sick in districts where the rate is below 40%,” he said.
Minister Beroš said Croatia had 109 such districts and that these areas would be the focus of the new vaccination push.
