The Prime Minister conveyed greetings for Victory and Homeland Gratitude Day and Veterans' Day
“By marking Victory and Homeland Gratitude Day and Croatian Veterans' Day, Croatia this year also celebrates the 30th anniversary of Operation Storm, a key military operation in the entire history of Croatia, of crucial importance for freedom, independence and national survival. This historical event still inspires pride and a sense of unity in us today,” said Prime Minister Andrej Plenković in his congratulatory message to Croatians, fellow citizens and Croatian veterans.
He recalled with particular reverence the courage of Croatian veterans who laid down their lives in the foundations of Croatian freedom. “Our permanent obligation is to ensure a dignified life for them and their families, to preserve the truth about the Homeland War and to continue the persistent search for all missing persons,” he stressed.
He also recalled that Operation Storm was a decisive turning point in the imposed Homeland War. In just a few days, under the leadership of the first Croatian President, Dr. Franjo Tuđman, almost a quarter of the then occupied state territory was liberated and the plan of the criminal regime of Slobodan Milošević was broken.
“Storm also had a decisive impact on the end of the war in Bosnia and Herzegovina, opened the way for the return of the displaced and enabled the peaceful reintegration of the Croatian Danube Region,” said Plenković.
He emphasized that today Croatia looks back with pride on everything it has achieved in the past three decades of freedom and state independence.
“We have become a member of the EU, NATO, the Euro area and the Schengen area. We are systematically strengthening the economy in order to continue improving the quality of life of our citizens. We are working with equal dedication to strengthening the Croatian Army, the police and all components of the Homeland Security system,” he stated.
“With optimism and unity, let us continue to develop and strengthen Croatia to the pride of all generations of our fellow citizens,” the Prime Minister urged.
On behalf of the Government and personally, he sincerely greeted everyone on the occasion of the Day of Victory and Homeland Gratitude, and greeted Croatian defenders on the occasion of their day, with sincere gratitude from the entire nation for everything they did for the freedom of Croatia.
