About fifty children from Ukraine visited the Zagreb Zoo today in order to turn their minds, at least for a short while, from the war that drove them to Croatia. Croatian Television reporter Dinko Kreštalica spoke with the director of the Zagreb Zoo, Damir Skoko, who said that at the moment it is most important to see the smiles on the children’s faces.

“I can say I had mixed emotions. We definitely remember our Homeland War, and when the children entered the Zoo and saw real Capuchin monkeys, when we saw the smiles, we knew we fulfilled out purpose. It is a privilege to be able to help someone from Ukraine today. We welcome them here today and hope, like everyone else, that they will no longer have to be refugees. We are open for them and at their disposal. As an institution we prepared in different ways. We are prepared to help Zoos in Ukraine with vehicles and accommodation. The purpose of today is for parents and children to turn their thoughts for a while and to see the smiles on their faces, for them to touch the animals and feel warmth. We remain available for other groups and cooperation,” said the director of the Zagreb Zoo, Damir Skoko.

Lunch and time with the animals was organized for the children from Ukraine.
