There were 341 new cases of coronavirus infection in Croatia today and three people have died. 26 people are on respirators and the situation still calls for caution, without relaxing and underestimating the virus. At the same time vaccinations continue.

972 people were vaccinated at the Zagreb Fairground yesterday.

“Besides people with an appointment, all those people that have not yet been vaccinated can come. They can come today and on Thursday during the afternoon hours or tomorrow and on Friday from 8 am to 12 pm. We have a fair number of interested foreigners who would get vaccinated at home much later; however the population turning out to get vaccinated is quite varied. We still have a number of people with chronic illnesses, a number of older people, but we are getting more and more people in their younger years,” said Dr. Mirjana Lana Kosanović Ličina.

Almost half of the adult population has been vaccinated, and in order to increase the percentage - vaccinations without an appointment continue across the country.

The coronavirus pandemic has also affected blood donations because many donors were infected or in self-isolation. Speaking for Croatian radio this morning, Irena Jukić, the director of the Croatian Institute for Transfusion Medicine, said that vaccinated people can donate blood and noted that they are especially in need of the O blood type.

“Naturally vaccinated people can donate blood. We always leave or day or two in case someone has a local reaction so that some sort of inflammatory reaction doesn't happen where the vaccination was administered or there is not some sort of side effect. But as far as blood donations are concerned, vaccination does not rule out donating. If people feel fine and want to help they are always welcome,” said Jukić.

As for the situation in counties, there were 21 new cases of infection in Zadar county, Šibenik-Knin County registered 12, Dubrovnik-Neretva County had 9, Koprivnica-Križevci County had 7, and Istria County had 6 newly infected. Bjelovar-Bilogora, Osijek-Baranja and Zagreb counties record 3 each, Međimurje 2, and Varaždin one new case of infection.
