33rd anniversary of fall of Bogdanovci marked today

The 33rd anniversary of the fall of Bogdanovci was marked today with Holy Mass, laying of wreaths and lighting of candles at the monument. 

During the three-month defense of the village, which connected Vukovar with free Croatian territory by the so-called corn field road, 133 defenders and civilians were killed. They heroically defended Bogdanovci for weeks, but the defense was broken on November 10th, 1991. With the occupation of Bogdanovi, Vukovar found itself completely surrounded.

“I left the last day, in a breakthrough, barefoot in short sleeves with a severely wounded person who I saved along the way,” said Mara Marjanović.

“If we look at some sort of effect, ours is fairly big. We didn't even know then what we were doing or creating, we weren't aware of how significant we were and would become later. Later we became aware that we were the Titans who created Croatia and today that is gradually forgotten,” said Bogdanovci defense commander Vinko Žanić.
