The Day of Remembrance of Detainees of Serbian Camps during the Homeland War was marked in Knin and Tepljuh. 30 years have passed since the first exchange of detainees from the camp in the Knin area.

The commemoration began at the old hospital in Knin, a building that served as a camp.

“At the old hospital, we laid a wreath, lit candles, and prayed for all those who, unfortunately, did not see their freedom, who died, that is, were killed in the camps,” said Ivan Turudić, the president of the Croatian Association of Serbian Concentration Camp Prisoners for Split-Dalmatia County.

At the Storm monument, they also laid wreaths, lit candles and prayed, while they also visited another significant location - the place of exchange in Tepljuh.

“That is something that, I would say, warms the soul of every inmate, and that is that second birthday. Or, as I like to say, in many ways the first, because we don't remember the first one, when our mother gave birth to us, but the second one, when we were exchanged, we remember for the rest of our lives,” said Turudić, who called on the Croatian public to remember the sacrifice that brought them the greatest thing in the world - freedom.

Tomorrow the Day of Camp Inmates will also be marked in Nemetin.
