One of the issues of most interest to believers is when the Zagreb Cathedral will re-open for services. The cathedral was severely damaged in the 5.5 magnitude earthquake that hit the Croatian capital and surrounding areas on March 22nd.

After the earthquake, along with the massive damage, a true cultural discovery was unearthed, the remains of funerary art in carved stone from the Renaissance.

After all of the cathedral’s statues and heavy chandeliers were removed and put in safe keeping with nearby churches, the flooring and wooden pews behind the central altar were removed to reveal the stone plaque dating from 1510. One of the plaque’s pieces was discovered earlier and has been preserved, awaiting the discovery of the rest of this exquisite funerary artwork. The two remains will now, after many long years, be reunited.
