The Scout Association of Croatia delivered the Bethlehem Light of Peace to the Zagreb Cathedral earlier today for the 28th year in a row.

Due to the pandemic the cathedral remains closed, but the light was handed over to Rector Josip Kuhtić in a special ceremony earlier today attended by Parliament Speaker Gordan Jandroković.

"The Light of Bethlehem symbolizes the connection between nations, between countries. It symbolizes togetherness, peace, goodness, faith and love. Everything that we so desperately need in these difficult times," said Jandroković who thanked the scouts for continuing the tradition despite the challenges faced this year.

Complications caused by the pandemic meant the Scout Association of Austria were unable to light the flame at the Church of the Nativity in Bethlehem like in years past, but rather the flame was sent to Austria by plane from Bethlehem via Tel Aviv.

The flame was then sent across Europe following holy mass in Salzburg on Saturday.

The Croatian Scouts received the flame from their Slovenian colleagues at the Bregana border crossing on Sunday morning.
