To mark 100 years of Croatian Radio and radio drama, Croatian Radio and Television (HRT) has launched a free digital Audio Library featuring more than 600 documentary and feature radio dramas.

The collection brings together legendary performances, literary classics and contemporary productions, making Croatia's rich audio heritage accessible to listeners at home and abroad.

The launch coincides with the centenary of Croatian Radio and 100 years since Radio Station Zagreb announced its first competition for radio drama scripts on December 4, 1926.

The Audio Library of Documentary and Feature Radio Dramas brings together notable works from Croatian Radio's rich archive and contemporary production, allowing listeners to access them anytime, free of charge.

More than 600 works, from crime dramas to literary classics

The library currently features more than 600 works, representing just a fraction of Croatian Radio's extensive archive.

To help listeners navigate the collection, the works are divided into seven categories: crime, comedy, drama, novels, documentaries, readings and the art of sound.

Each category also includes thematic collections dedicated to prominent writers, actors, genres and subjects.

Legendary Croatian actors return through archival recordings

A special highlight of the Audio Library is its digitized archive of recordings preserving the voices and performances of some of Croatia's greatest actors.

One featured collection, Pero Kvrgić and So On, brings together radio dramas across various genres starring the celebrated Croatian actor.

Fans of classic productions can explore the Radio Classics collection, which includes Anton Chekhov's The Seagull from 1959, featuring Mia Oremović and Zvonimir Rogoz, and Ivo Vojnović's Equinox from 1955, starring Miša Martinović.

These recordings are more than artistic achievements. They are valuable documents of Croatia's acting, directing, dramaturgy and musical composition.

From Croatian women writers to contemporary playwrights

The library also offers a substantial selection of contemporary productions alongside its historical recordings.

The Women Wrote collection features contemporary radio novels by Croatian women writers, while Contemporary Drama brings together radio plays by leading Croatian playwrights.

New premieres from Croatian Radio's Drama Program will also be added regularly, keeping the collection up to date.

Croatian radio drama accessible worldwide

The library's digital format makes it accessible regardless of where listeners live. All content is free, and the platform is optimized for mobile devices.

Croatians abroad and other audiences interested in Croatian culture can listen to radio dramas, literary classics and documentary productions in Croatian at home, while traveling or on the go.

The initiative offers another way to connect audiences around the world with Croatia's cultural heritage and the Croatian language.

A century of radio drama in Dramoplov

Visitors can also explore Dramoplov, a dedicated overview of the history of Croatian Radio's Drama Program, available at the bottom of the library's webpage.

The resource features historical information, photographs, audio excerpts from selected productions and a list of international awards won by the Drama Program over the decades.

It offers further insight into the development of Croatian radio drama and its recognition on the international stage.

A growing digital archive

The Audio Library will continue to expand, with new premieres and additional selections from Croatian Radio's extensive archive being added over time.

The project is edited by Nives Madunić Barišić.

More than 600 radio dramas are already available to stream for free, offering listeners a chance to rediscover a century of Croatian radio creativity.
