Thousands of kilometres from Croatia, Croatian songs, dances and traditional costumes continue to live on. The senior group of the Hrvatski Vitezovi folklore society in Vancouver preserves a part of its ancestors’ heritage with every performance, while passing what they have inherited on to new generations growing up in Canada but still connected to their Croatian roots.

For Hrvatski Vitezovi, folklore is about much more than dancing or performing for an audience. It is a way of preserving Croatian identity, bringing the community together and passing traditions from one generation to the next.

Through music, song, dance and traditional costumes, members showcase the richness of Croatia’s cultural heritage. Behind every performance are hours of rehearsals, socialising and working together.

The Hrvatski Vitezovi senior group performs at cultural celebrations, Croatian community gatherings and other events, presenting audiences with Croatian dances, songs and customs.

But what they do goes far beyond learning choreography.
